Spider-Man: Far From Home is the first movie to hit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the events of Avengers: Endgame. This was planned to allow fans to see the changes in the MCU from the ground level – the point of view of the most relatable superhero in the MCU. With Spider-Man as the one true street-level hero, this allows us to see how the Infinity Gauntlet snaps affected the world.
However, with that said, few people expected to see such major changes in Spider-Man: Far From Home outside of a new adventure for the Wall Crawler in the brand-new world. The changes were massive and the introduction of the multiverse means nothing in Marvel will ever be the same again.
THE WORLD MOURNS IRON MAN
From the look of it, Spider-Man is stepping into the heavy iron shoes of Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Peter is seen looking at a giant mural painted on a building of Iron Man and it is clear that the world is still shell shocked from the ultimate sacrifice that he made in Avengers: Endgame.
With that said, the world is now looking for new heroes. Spider-Man, the youngest of them all so far, is someone Nick Fury is reaching out to for help. He is someone Happy Hogan encourages to be a hero. He is someone that can help the world move on from Iron Man.
THE POLICE ARE WORKING WITH HEROES
There is a fun scene where Spider-Man, still using his Iron Spider armor, takes out a bunch of bad guys before the police show up. This is a huge change as superhero movies usually have the police and superheroes at odds due to the entire vigilante thing.
This also has a side meaning – the entire superhero registration act caused most acts from superheroes to be illegal without prior authorization. With Spider-Man catching bad guys and the police cracking jokes with him, it means things are relaxed on the entire vigilante landscape. This is likely the outcome of the war to save the world in Avengers: Endgame.
THE RETURNED
There is the idea that five years passed after the first Thanos snap in Avengers: Endgame and the snaps in Avengers: Endgame that brought people back. As shown in this trailer, there are at least three major people that were clearly dusted and returned – Ned, MJ, and Flash.
This is very obvious since they are in school and are the same age as Peter, who was dusted. However, with this in mind, it really brings up the thought of what happened to those who were left behind? Happy is here, but is he five years older or was he taken too? There is a lot to untie for those left behind when their loved ones returned.
THERE IS A MULTIVERSE
This is the huge reveal in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer. The idea that Mysterio is from another Earth – or at least that he claims to be – has opened up a huge wormhole where a lot of things can happen. If the multiverse now exists in the MCU, could Miles Morales show up?
Even bigger – is the multiverse where the Fox properties will finally show up with an explanation of why The X-Men and Fantastic Four were not around to help with Thanos – they are all from another Earth. The multiverse is now part of the MCU and Marvel can use it to explain a lot of things and will likely play a major role in the future Marvel movies.
NICK FURY HAS A NEW JOB
Nick Fury goes and gets Spider-Man to help him in the latest effort to save the world. The fact that Fury is coordinating this mission means that he is back in charge – of something. S.H.I.E.L.D. was taken out of his hands, first by Hydra and then the U.S. government.
However, there is something going on here. He has computers. He and Maria Hill are keeping tabs on people, places, and events and they are in charge of something big. The biggest idea is that this is part of a larger plan and that might lead to the idea that they are now running something like S.W.O.R.D., which deals with affairs on Earth and beyond.
THOR IS OFF PLANET
This is something that people who watched Avengers: Endgame already know, but it was now clarified here beyond a doubt. Thor has left Earth completely and is traveling through space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. When Peter Parker asks Nick Fury why they don’t call Thor, Fury explains he is “off-planet.”
This is also huge because while Taiki Waititi is reportedly working on a new Thor movie, this could mean Thor will appear in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Now, since Gunn already had a script for the movie from a couple of years ago, that might be hard to pull off but for now, he is with the Guardians.
CAPTAIN MARVEL IS UNAVAILABLE
Much like in Avengers: Endgame, when the world needed Captain Marvel, she was nowhere to be found until later in the battle with Thanos. There is a good reason for this. Captain Marvel has a lot of the universe that counts on her to protect and Earth is just one planet of many.
The fact that Maria Hill mentions that Captain Marvel is unavailable tells audiences that they are keeping in touch with Carol Danvers. This adds to the hints that S.W.O.R.D. exists and now Fury or Hill are the contacts on Earth for Captain Marvel with Black Widow gone.
STARK TECH IS STILL PREVALENT
One big question after Tony Stark died in Avengers: Endgame is how will heroes deal with the high tech problems that he originally dealt with. Tony Stark made his own armor and he made Spider-Man’s Iron Spider suit. He was the genius behind it, not the scientists who worked for him.
In this trailer, Peter was shown upgrading parts of his armor, showing that while he is not quite the level of a Tony Stark, he is really smart as it is and can keep things going on a smaller scale when it comes to scientific upgrades and advances. It is the first time the movies really showed the brilliance of Peter Parker.
